The Smile House – Photography by Laura Kay Wootan » Welcome to my photography blog where I share clients sessions and my life experiences on my little corner of the web.

Julie & Brian

Meet beautiful Julie and handsome Brian. This is one of my favorite all time sessions!  I had a wonderful time getting to know this great couple.   I love to meet with my clients before we do a session for a few reasons… One good planning always makes for great portraits and two I love to hear about how people met and about the things they like to do together. I like to know about hobbies and interests too.  I love my clients to be part of this creative process. It makes portraits not just meaningful but it makes them truly Art. I love to tell stories.

During our consult Brian mentioned he like planes. I knew we had a museum in town but I didn’t know what kind of planes exactly. We googled, made some calls, and it couldn’t have been more perfect! The  Commemorative Airplane Museum here in San Marcos had a WWII B25 Bomber a plane that Brian happened to love.

We were so excited!!  Both Julie and Brian loved the idea of doing a “retro” session.  It couldn’t have been more perfect. Until….. at the very last minute the Army called him to back early and he HAD to leave. So we postponed the session. I was TOTALLY bummed.  Six months later Brian was back from his tour of duty and home for a little R&R.  Julie found some great 1940s outfits online and found Brian a pilots uniform too!  It all came together perfectly.  A big thank you too to Shawn from Beautiful By Shawn . She did the most amazing job on Julie’s hair and make up.  Julie was stunning.  Thank you also to the CAM for being so awesome and wonderful to work with!

We also decided to do a “regular” engagement session around San Marcos. So we went to some of my favorite area’s to photograph around town. Again Brian and Julie were so fun and willing to try anything! They’re sooo sweet together! I have the best job in the world! I love to photograph people in love. While we were photographing around the river we were talking about our next session. I asked Brian if he wanted to meet us at the salon after Julie had her hair and make up done. He said with no hesitation, “I want to be with her.”  When he said that it sunk in for me and my heart hurt for them. I can’t imagine how hard it is to be separated from the person you love.  I am praying for Brian’s safe return. Thank you for your service. I truly appreciate the sacrifices you and your family make.

So without further Adieu here are a few favorite images but really you MUST watch the slideshows!!

I love the slideshows, but especially the Casablanca one. If you were going for “cinematic” you got it! Beautiful portraits of a beautiful couple.
